Ok after some searching looks like these quick release connectors cannot be adjusted , so either replace with new or I believe the better solution is to get rid of them and use 3/4 inch barbs with clamps , has anyone done that?

What are you trying to accomplish by "tightening" them? Maybe you can just swap out an O-ring to stop a leak (if that's the issue)?

There is a small leak, they are very tight and if I try to open them I think the connector will break

They come apart easily if you release the clip (been a long time since I did one, so I can't give you a lot of advice on just how that works). Then replace the worn O-ring and your leak will stop, and you won't have reduced the reliability of the vehicle with a kludge repair / mod.

They perhaps come apart easily when relatively new but not after 15 years the plastic becomes brittle due to heat etc , their is no need for this connector , its only use is for quicker assembly when new , the best I think is a new pipe from heater to the engine like on the ford focus , not sure why Volvo have 2 quick disconnects one at the heater core and then another in the middle ?
But will try and open it and see , one cant get the correct O rings here and as their is no info on the size , taking the old one out may be a bit of a miss or hit thing
In the mean time I have sprayed silicon on and will leave for a day or so , no leaks when cold and standing , only a little when hot and under pressure but after the spray of silicon have not checked , but will use it tomorrow and see

So today after the silicon spray it has still a leak so the connector is no good , tried to remove it but its not moving I believe there is a special tool to do this anyone used it and it works ?

Those appear to need a counterclockwise twist to loosen -

So after numerous tries I took it to my mate who has a garage they could not remove it but on the next day it came off , , but the leak was a broken hose next to the connector small leak where the clamp is , New hose is crazy price from Volvo here in RSA , they really think here to make as much money as possible (over 200 us for the short pipe) so we had to make a plan
All ok now but on my 2005 January model there are no O rings in the connectors , its just plastic to another plastic dam if I know how that sealed for 16 years
