Just ran over a good-sized pothole last night with my 2009 S40...with the heavy rains we've had in the Boston area they are getting hard to avoid, especially when it's dark and they are filled with water.

I checked the car over and I didn't see any damage to the bumper, tire, or rim. Looked underneath and all I saw was a small scrape on the splash shield...the shield didn't look cracked or broken and the scrape even looked like it wasn't "fresh". Briefly drove the car on the highway (70-75 MPH) and didn't notice any drifting or vibration.

What else should I check for? My mechanical skills are limited to say the least...I didn't see anything underneath that looked bent or broken but I'm not sure I would really know...

 

That's about it. Just be thankful and be careful next time.

 

Might check to make sure your struts are not leaking around the shaft. I had that happen on my '02 S40 after hitting a pot hole.
