Default How do I check the transmission fluid level in my S40

I just purchased a 2003 S40 and I can't find any dipstick or any other way to check the transmission fluid level. I checked the user manual and it doesn't even show how to check the level. All it states it what kind and how much fluid the transmission holds.

Can anyone tell me how to check the transmission fluid level? and can I get the fluid changed at any quick oil change place like jiffy lube or do I have to take it to a dealer.

Not sure if it has a dip stick to check it. If it doesn't have instructions in the manual. it likely does NOT have a stick.

I would NEVER trust any quick lube place to mess with my transmission. Do it yourself or have a real auto repair shop do it.

The dipstick has a short yellow handle and is located on the front of the trans, down below the battery. You can see it with a strong light. I can just barely grab it if I wiggle one arm through all the stuff in the way.

In this pic (not my car) the yellow handle is clearly seen on the right. My 2001 has a small round yellow handle shaped differently than the one pictured. It is the same spot though.

If that is the case, this might work:

The picture looks like you had to remove the battery. By "down below the battery" do you mean underneath the battery?

Thanks.

Please disregard my last post. I was able to see and reach the dipstick.

I do have a few other questions concerning the transmission.

Thanks again

Default 2004 S40 Trans dipstick

Found mine today, my S40 is a June 2003 build. Found it just under the intake manifold at the back end of the engine block and right near the starter. A yellow top with a release catch. Although I do not know how I am going to fit my hand in that space?!

Pic to follow....
