How do I determine the TRUE value of my Volvo which is considered "rough" on KBB
I mean do those estimates even mean anything when you try and trade it in? I've had the CEL on forever after replacing the fuel filter, pump and O2 sensors, cat converter too. Still on. It was suggested to rep the MAF sensor.
AND now that I moved to TX they require safety inspections which will force me to fix damage done by an accident. Headlight, markers, blinkers.
It is just not worth it to keep it.
So I want to give it a shot and try and trade it.
The KBB and Edmunds says I can get like $2200 for it even with the work it needs.
How do I make sure I get the best deal and most for my money? I KNOW they won't give me that kind of deal but why even have those numbers on KBB if it is inaccurate?

Do an appraisal on Edmunds and also give your insurance agent a call. They can look up on recent payouts for that specific vehicle and options. Both seem more accurate than KBB and looking at online sites for current market value at your location. If you can get something for it on trade it may be the easiest route.

A car in the condition you indicate is really not worth anything to the dealer. They don't want it and will either dump it at auction or sell it off to a recycler for a couple hundred dollars. What they will give you as a trade-in depends on the vehicle you are trying to buy - how much the dealer has invested in it, how much room they have to play with, etc. Very likely the trade-in value will be little more than what they would offer as a discount for a cash/no-trade deal.
