Default Inner CV joint overextended - help please!

OK, so I'm doing the passenger side front wheel bearing on my 2000 V40. For the first time in a long time I'm wishing I'd paid somebody to do this as every step has been a PITA. It would be so much easier on a lift.

So I'm putting it back together and I can not get the steering knuckle assembly reattached to the strut. As far as I can see the inner CV joint is overextended. Have I pulled the inner CV joint apart? It seems to be properly located.

I'd welcome any advice as I'm starting to think I'll have to pull the drive axle out to fix this. Thanks!

OK, stand down. I lined the drive axle up and gave the end a few light taps with a deadblow hammer and the inner CV joint popped back in.
