Default installing headlights?

I have a 2002 volvo s40 and I am having trouble changing out my headlights. Not the bulb, I am changing the whole light fixture. I have removed the 4 screws and it is loose but it seems like the bumper is in the way when I try to pull it out? Am I missing something?

I also would like to change my thermostat and Sensor? is it easy enough to do myself and what would the process be?

any help would be appreciated.

Technically the front bumper is supposed to come off to replace the Headlights.
BUT if you push really hard down on the bumper cover by the inside of the headlight(by the grill area) you should be able to work the headlight out and back in.

The thermostat and sensor is easy to replace. Remove the 2 T-45 screws holding the thermostat housing on.
When you pull the thermostat out remove the sensor at the same time. It is easier to do it with the housing off.

is there anything wrong if I buy a thermostat and sensor from autozone. I know some parts are meant to be from the dealer to work correctly. Also, what type thermostat do I need to purchase?

They should work fine.
I forget the exact temp. but the S40 takes a special temp. thermostat.
See what they offer.
