Default Key sticking in ignition

Hi all. Did a search and couldnt find anything on this so I was curious. Has anyone had an issue with not being able to remove the key from the ignition once the car is turned off? I have been having an intermittent problem with this on my 01 S40. It happened to me once last week. I parked the car and no matter what I tried... turning the sterring wheel, moving it from Park to Reverse,etc...would not come out... eventually did come out. I then switched that key with the spare I had. All seemed good untila couple days laterit stuck again. No matter what I tried it would not come out, so finallyI drove the car around the block and parked it and it came right out. Next day I drove it, and when I stopped, once again the key would not come out. Drove around the block again, parked it...sure enough it came out. Drove it to work this morning and it came out fine. Anyone ever have any issuse with this or know what might be the cause?
Thanks all

Usually it is either from a broken shiftknob or someone used the shiftlock overide button and it is stuck down.

Thanks tech. Not to sound like an idiot, but are you referring to the button you need to press to move the shifter out of park? I havent had the issue with the key in the last couple days, but 2 days ago when I went to shift out of park the button on the shifter wouldnt budge..after pressing it a couple times it finally loosened up and worked. Hasnt given me that problem since but the button doesnt seem to work as freely as it should. Is this something WD-40 would fix andcould it berelated to the key removal issue?
Thanks again for your assistance.

Yes I meant the button you press to get it out of park. Look across the bottom section of the button like where it meets the ****. Is it broken up?
If so then that might be the problem because when they break the button won't come out all the way sometimes.

Also id the shiftlock button is stuck down some it will also stop the key from coming out. WD-40 should work fine.
