List of parts for strut replacement
Does someone have the list of parts for the strut replacement on an '03 S40? I want to replace the necessary bushings and sway bar links and anything else that might typically wear out after 140K. The car rides fairly well but the suspension is starting to make some noise especially around corners and the front tires have worn badly on the inside part of the tread. Any sugestions would be very helpful (links).
most likely your sway bar bushings.... there a pain in the *** to get to just to replace the bushings ... if you plan on taking in to volvo youll be looking at aroung 400-500 bucks for labor....
could be other stuff as well ..... take off your endlinks and ride around and see if it is still making noise... if not then its your endlinks .... if it is prob your sway bar bushings or other things like strut mounts but I doubt that.... I never know though since its not my car

My '00 S40 is making creaking sounds when it goes to lock. Mechanic said the strut tower bearing holders were wearing out. common on this model. He said there is a strut update kit which runs $125/ side + labor. He said it wasn't dangerous so I just am leaving it until it bothers me $500 worth.
Yes, I've read about these sway bar bushings I'll have to check to see why they are so difficult to replace. I just drove the car 400+ miles and it ran nicely (about 37MPG). Strut tower bearing holders hmm I'll have to check on that part. I don't mind pulling the struts out and replacing any rubber components. It's not that big a deal for me.
The S40's are a little different. For the top there it 2 metal plates with a plastic bearing inbetween the plates.
The bearing goes bad and collapses and the metal plates rub when turning.
Also Volvo updated the plates and bearings. They migth look a little different and you might need to do both side if one is bad. They made them 3mm thicker I believe.

Thanks Tech that's the informationI was looking for on the struts. Do you happen to have part numbers or internet sources for the parts? I've been looking in the usual places: eBay, eeuroparts, fcpgroten, tasca, ect.
