Default Looking to Buy

I'm looking at a 00' S40 1.9T Auto 149k miles

Supposedly everything works fine, ac blows cold and t-belt was just replaced.

I was looking at one earlier with 200k that needed a new 02 sensor and tune up and when i looked on edmunds it seemed everyone talked these cars down to being expensive and requiring a lot of work.

I figured i'd ask here first considering a lot of people think buying regular maintenance things means a car is junk.

Is there anything i should look for or what out on these? The guy wants $2,200

The 2000 is kind of unique in some areas. There were many improvements made to the 2001 models. I would not buy a 2000 myself.

Also, the 2000-2004 models are getting very long in the tooth. My 2001 requires regular TLC to keep it in shape. And it's already trashed the valves with a slipped timing belt once.

My question would be who will be doing the maintenance on the car? If you are handy with tools these cars are no harder to fix than any other with 150k miles. And the same things wear out: struts, motor mounts, headlights, brakes. You just have to give it attention when it needs it.

I'm already one of those people who hate T-belts as it is, so that makes me even more worried.

I'm some what handy but i drive a lot and would prefer to not have to constantly tinker with the car. I live in a complex that doesn't really allow working on cars, so i typically did any work any my parents.

Lower miles too if you can. Really, it's not so much the year as the miles. Just my .02
