Looking to buy but!

Looking to buy but!
I'm looking to buy a 2000-2002 S40. My reason being for those years is that the price is cheaper. I've worked on my dad's volvo's for years (a 85 244 DL and now a 98 S90), and so my main concern is for a s40 with 40000-120000 (the range of the mileage it could be for that year of car), what kind of maintenance, work etc. would I be looking at? Obviously it varies on somethings, due to upkeep and usage, but I'm looking for generally. What kind of problems have you/do you have with these cars are this area?
Thanks for any help provided, I look forward to your replies.

RE: Looking to buy but!
Volvo did not make a manual transmission for the 2000-2004 s40. The 2000 model year is a 4 speed with selectable modes, while the 2001 and up have a 5 speed adaptive shift. Do some searching online and you will be able to find all the specs for this era of cars, including standard features and optional features. Its out there, just spend some time with Google. If you have some trouble finding it let me know. I have a whole folder of infor i printed out when i was looking to buy my 2001
