You can get the gas shocks for the hood at any auto parts store. I don't know if you are trying to save money, but they usually are not that expensive. Found some on rockauto.com for $16.

I'll check that site out but everytime i look for parts online its so much money. i rather find a car that has been smashed or being parted out so i can pick what i need at a very cheap price. the trunk lock is something i need pretty fast.

Just an fyi, I was reading a different thread and someone mentioned that they had a faulty sensor that wasn't allowing them to open their trunk. Try searching the forums, I am pretty sure it was for a different model Volvo, but it may be a similar problem.

Found it, from the Volvo S60 thread.

When this happens it is common for the fuse to blow in the fuse box and eliminate the ability of the FOB to electronically open the trunk lid. It is a fairly easy fix to replace the harness and the fuse.

A short term fix may be to wrap the existing harness with a bit of electricians tape. BUT that is a short term repair while waiting to get the harness.

I’ve replaced two on my 2002 S80. The first because it failed the second because I didn’t use a wire tie wrap to keep the harness tight in place.

So check the fuse and the harness, if that is your problem of course.

nerddad. I am looking for the plastic pieces between the motor and the shaft that goes down to the lock. My dealer didn't sound like they made a kit? You wouldn't happen to have a part number would you? I have a 2000 s40.

Thanks.

the dealer faxed me a page from the parts program which was a drawing of all the lock/latch parts. the part i needed was among several parts which were circled on the drawing. (i have since thrown the fax away.) the circled items were ordered with one part number, this is what i was referring to as a "kit". however, those parts were on the back of the lock-- NOT at the motor.
if you can get the dealer to fax you the parts drawing it will help you a lot.
