Default Lost keyless remote and can't disable alarm

Hi,

I have a S40 2002 Volvo. I have lost the keyless remote. I last locked the car using the remote and every time I go to unlock the car with the key, the alarm goes off and I have to start the car in order for the alarm to stop.

Is there anyway to stop the alarm using just the key? I believe the fuse for the alarm also disables the blinkers and a couple of other things which I don't want to do.

Also do I HAVE to buy a new remote at the dealership (as opposed to getting one off Ebay)? Do I HAVE to get the software and pay the labor at the Volvo dealership or can I go elsewhere. Volvo wants over $200.00 for another remote and that price sounds a bit high. $119.00 for new remote, 23.00 for the software and $69.00 for 1/2 hour of labor to program it.

Do I have any other options?

Any suggestions if possible to get the alarm to stop sounding when opening the car door while I still do some searching for my remote that I lost? Thanks in advance.

Well we got the car alarm to stop by turning the key twice when unlocking the door. It seems like the dealership service dept would have told me this yesterday when I called asking this question. They told me I had to bring the car back in since I locked with a remote, they said I'd have to unlock with a remote in order to get the alarm to stop.

Come to find out now that we'll just get an extra key instead of a paying for a new remote. Good Golly at the prices that Volvo charges. They want about $80.00 just to cut another key.

That is not just Volvo... Welcome to the world of modern cars and smart keys. It actually sounds pretty cheap.

Yup just turn to unlock twice. This will disable the alarm.
