New to owning a Volvo

Hey y'all, like my name suggests I am buying an s40 for $200 tomorrow. Guy wanted to trade it in, had it towed to my shop but ended up buying elsewhere. He was going to donate it and get ~120 tax savings so I said I'd give him $200 and save him the tow. Got a group of friends who are interested in joining a LeMons team with me, and besides the fact that you need to keep your foot on the gas while idling or it dies, sunken in sunroof + duct tape, Freddie Kruegered leather seats, and lack of clear coat everywhere... It seems like a good car for this purpose. I'm a Saab guy so I know how obsessive/protective Volvo guys are so I hope we aren't performing sacrilege by using this '01 1.9T with 190k for this purpose. In fact I chose it because from what I understand it has the same engine as the 5 cylinder cars with a cylinder lopped off.
Volvo 5 cylinder turbo = Saab B234R = indestructible
Therefore recipe for some great FWD fun, and hopefully some wins for team Volvo.
PS: When my sister was looking for a car I told her to buy an s80, she bought it.
Sorry for the long first post, just wanted to justify my being here. I will doubtless be asking a lot of questions here soon.
Edit:
Also, LeMons rules state if you sell non-essential equipment off of the car you can subtract from the sale price leaving more room for parts that make the car run properly. If anybody needs anything non-essential off of the car(sorry AC necessary) that we can part with and not miss we'll sell on the cheap obviously after getting more established here.

If the car is running then that's a good sign. You can scan through the posts on this board to see what the common problem areas are... most are on the annoying maintenance side vs catastrophic failure - VVTs clogging up, broken springs, AC clutches, vacuum leaks and MAF/fuel stuff etc. Usually when somebody does post about an engine rebuild, its due to timing belt failures = bent valves.
