850R Wagon - one call from owning it
I just picked up a '96 850R wagon for $800 at the auction.
It's a repo, so the bank must consent and I'll find out Monday. The car is very clean inside & out. The only obvious work is a battery (they ran it with a power pack, so I know how it runs). Oh, and I also picked up a '98 V70 turbo that probably will give up its engine for a '98 XC70 I have in the yard.

I hope so - I have to wait 'til Monday to find out. I picked up an '00 V70R last year at the auction for 2k.
If I get the car, it brings my Volvo total to 9!

Well, the bank declined, so the car will be at the auction tomorrow...and so will I. I hope I get it for less than $800 tomorrow. Then the bank will have wished they took the previous offer!!
So it went for $950. I would not bid higher than my original bid as a matter of principal. Regardless, the auctioneer said the same thing at bidding's end: "That's a call Monday!" Good luck.
Good things come to those who wait! So I've watched this car get purchased for $950, then show up on Craiglist for $2150...where it sat. I emailed a few strategic questions that were not truthfully replied to. So it sat, and was reduced to $1800, then $1650, then $1450. The only thing done was a new battery. The "flipper" said it needed control arms, and it obviously needed to be inspected. I also knew it needed a timing belt.
Last Saturday, the flipper took it back to the auction and it didn't sell. I didn't go down because I was busy working on my Volvos. But I did go today when it was run through again. I arrived late, and it was 2 cars from going on the block. (I didn't have time to get a number!) Guess what I got it for? Yup - $800! Woohoo!!!
I will do all the work it needs, then decide what to do with it.
And yes, I will post photos when I get it home this week.

So a VIN decoder http://www.pronto-net.com/vin_app/vin.php (YV1LW5723T2194638) says it's an R, but the chin spoiler isn't an R, it has 16 inch rims, and it's badged as 850 turbo. I don't care if it's not really an R, though, because I'm going to have a little fun with it.
Regardless, here's my $800 Volvo turbo!

I'm pretty sure the R vin has the # 58 in it. Here is the official Volvo vin decoder for '96: https://www.customers.volvocars.com/...C/vin1996.html
