Oil
#2
My view is that best oil is the oil that meets the standards recommended in the owners manual and in the weight that meets your local climate. Don't overthink trying to choose between name brands like Castrol or Pennzoil and boutique brands like Amsoil or Liquid Moly, just change your oil on time with new OEM brand filters like Mann. My personal choice is to use a high mileage synthetic in a car that's over 10 years old (as they contain a seal softener agent) in a name brand to get the full value of their detergents. That said I generally use Castrol since I can buy it at a fair price at a Walmart (dunno if you have same in UK) but will also use Pennzoil or other top shelf name brands if they are on sale.
You can read more on the bobistheoilguy.com forum. One thing you can consider if the car is new to you is to send your oil out to a service for analysis to learn more about your engine's fitness.
