Default Oil leak.

Okay so i have a small oil leak that's getting on my nerves and I'm curious to know what the name is for the gasket that is directly above the oil pan gasket. I hope this is not confusing. If you were to get under the car and looked at it from the bottom up. the first gasket is the oil pan gasket, and the one above it is the one i gotta fix so, please help me ASAP. TIA!

I believe that you are describing the joint between the intermediate engine casing and the cylinder block, which has a liquid gasket. It's a major engine out of car job methinks.....

Is it coming from the front or back of the engine?

Yup that's the seal. And it's leaking from the rear side(side facing to the rear of the car and not the front) What to do? What to do?

Three things to consider: -

1. Are you 100% sure that the oil is escaping from that joint? If not, clean it up with Gunk or similar & then check in a few days to make sure.

2. How bad is the leak? If minor then maybe just monitor it.

3. What has caused the leak? Is there excessive crankcase pressure?

I'm not aware that the joint in question can be re-made without removing the engine from the car. Hope I'm wrong!

hmmm, What would cause an increase in crankcase pressure? I'm afraid that engine removal is the only wy to go. At first it was a kinda minor leak. After i had an oil change done, it began to leak more. also, i noticed that the guy who did my car overfilled a bit on the oil. Could this be what did me in?[X(]

Over-filling the engine oil will do it, as will worn piston rings/bores & maybe a blocked crankcase breather. Professionals will know never to over-fill.

If you can persuade the shop that they over-filled the oil & blew the seal then they might pay for or complete the work. Fingers crossed for you!

My guess is just under 5.5 litres including the oil filter.

When I do an oil change I usually refill with 4 litres, leave for a few minutes, check the level, then slowly add more at around half a litre at a time until just below the full mark. Then I start the engine, make sure that the oil light goes out quickly, stop the engine then 10 minutes later check the level again (it goes down a little when the oil filter fills) & top-up to the full mark. Ensures no over-filling by the keen home enthusiast that I am.....

A quart is 0.9464 of a litre i.e. almost the same thing, so 5 quarts should be about right. Sounds like they added around 8 quarts!!!

The engine holds 6 Quarts of oil.

Before you search to much on the joint clean the area really good. Then drive around the block Boosting it some. Then look again. See if it is leaking from the pipe that goes from the turbo to the engine. The o-ring at the engine might be bad leaking the oil.

Okay. One thing though, I dont know where the Turbo is? This is the moment that will bring my car and i really close. Thanks, so the line going from the turbo to the engine could be the culprit. I did see that oil is leaking only from the side thats facing the cabin. Well it runs down on that side. Thanks!

The turbo is bolted near the bottom of the exhaust manifold, between the back of the engine & the bulkhead.

As I said in point 1 of my first post yesterday & as Tech has now also suggested, it would be best to clean the oil up, drive the car & then see for sure where the oil is coming from.

Apologies, my math at 17 minutes past midnight was slightly out for converting litres to quarts! 5 quarts should be enough to fill to above the bottom mark on the dipstick. As per Tech, just under 6 quarts should fill to the top mark on the dipstick.

I did clean it, the day before i posted, and yesterday the iol was present again, but it's still kinda hard to tell. I'll def take a look at the turbo. I'm so hoping it's leaking from there.
