Default oil vacuum whine

good afternoon gentlemen (and/or whatever gender greeting you prefer LMFAO!)

2006
S40 (naturally aspirated)
2.4 I-5

so, i have deduced that i have an oil vacuum in the head and from what i understand, i need to replace the PCV oil trap. The car has the issue where the head whines when the oil cap and dipstick are fully connected. If either of those is open, the vacuum is relieved and the whine stops. Placing your hand over the oil filler spout with the cap off and engine running will cause a vacuum seal from your pal to the oil filler spout. I was thinking that i need this part. What do you guys think? Sorry if this is too detailed, i just didnt want to leave any question unanswered.

thank you in advance. I am a mod on XDA, and i cant tell you how much i truly appreciate those of who who participate in these forums. You guys are the best. Even the trolls LOL

yep sounds like you need to replace the oil separator. Note IPD sells a replacement diaphram for about $15 which sounds like what you need. Google "volvo s40 breather" and it should pop up.

yep, you can google for related posts where people talk about the "idle death whine" etc and noted similar tricks for fixing the breather.
