Default Volvo S40. P2187

p2187 with miss fires. Performed home made smoke test (paint can, soldering iron, baby oil, 2 lbs of air, works great), found smoke coming from behind the oil filter housing, this unit includes the PVC components. I changed the diaphragm on that 2 months ago. For the life of me I cannot see where the smoke is coming from. I look from under the car and see pretty much the whole Edge of the unit and see no smoke. Definitely smoke coming from top however. The cap that sits on top of diaphragm I can see 90% of but very back is just too close to engine block. Could smoke be coming from that diaphragm, and if so would I expect that anyway. Could be my issue is not a vacuum leak at all. 2005 S40 T5 turbo 6 speed. Car runs great, no apparent driving issues at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you need to pull the PCV housing again to make sure the diaphragm is ok. At least it's not a horrible job. Just sucks to do the work again 2 months later.

That’s what I’m thinking but this time maybe just replace the whole unit. Don’t want to spend the $ but. I’m thinking the diaphragm is ok because I have no other symptoms but I may have messed that plastic cap up when I removed it. It’s not the easiest to remove or put on. I can find just the diaphragm but not just the cap. Like you said not the worst job in the world.
