Default Output Speed Sensor???

Good day all,

I have a code popping up and i cannot find this correct sensor part number and location seems like most vendors lists them by different names

Automatic Transmission Speed Sensor?
Vehicle Speed Sensor ?

On most diagrams they are located at different locations??

2002 Volvo s40
TIA

So no symptoms? Have you erased the code and determined how long it might take to come back?

Yes this time around it immediately pop right back I am assuming this is called a hard code not stored but existing

there's 2 sensors with similar names and very near each other on the actual transmission

one call Vehicle Speed Sensor possibly output sensor and changes gears ??
one called Engine Speed Sensor or aka crankshaft sensor in some manuals

other than different color harness tabs and length of harness 2-3 inches to about 5 for the other they seem identical except for price lol the original parts are

BUT both sensors i replaced last year?

If you replaced them last year and you still get a code - the sensor is not the problem.

I got the codes 2 says ago not since last year they were all cleared

now its the generic 0700 and output speed sensor guess I'll remove and clean the pickup part that goes inside the tranny and clean the harness connections before i look to purchase a new sensor

the PNP is brand new in the past this cleared all the 0700 codes

Might be a good idea to get the car checked with another scanner than can produce non-generic codes and communicate with each module in the car to get a better idea of what is going on.

Thanks I try to have a better scanner to dig deeper but i have the 5000 page volvo manual and its only 3 pages referring to the Vehicle Speed Sensor and only to remove and install

I have starting to think that another sensor is overiding this or possible short or kink to the harness??

what would be the correct read out for the 2 wire harness for the VSS its the white transmission bracket cannot find a voltage pin out for this sensor

can a ABS wheel sensor also cause this code ? very few info regarding this subject, sensor and code in the manual and several forums

good day borrowed my neighbors high end scanner and still get the 0720 output speed sensor circuit

I changed the sensor this morning OEM volvo (white connector) and immediately got the code to pop up so its definitely a hard code either a harness issue or TCM ??

where is the TCM located back side of the radio on some diagrams have these ever gone bad ???

Not sure if that location carries over to the S40, but it's possible.

Would be a good idea to get the car scanned with VIDA to get an actual TCM code(s) instead of generic P codes.
