P0700 Error
I have my 2001 S40 1.9T running great and all past inspection. All of a sudden I am getting a P0700 error car is running good any ideas? sometimes the trans holds back on shifting into the last gear. I give it a little more pedal and then it shifts.......
P0700 is a transmission control system error - which is when the TCM (transmission control module) reports an error to the ECU. This can be caused by a poor connection or wiring issues to the TCM so as a first step you can try inspecting/cleaning the TCM's connector with electronics cleaner etc. Its also possible the fault is internal to the TCM - the good news is you can swap out a replacement (check eBay etc for used units) without programming. In my case, cleaning the connectors did the job.
when it comes to sourcing replacement parts, I usually start by going to a dealer web store and look at the correct model year, the years before and after and then check with volvo friendly online stores to see if there's any indication of a parts number change. Keep in mind the 2000 S40s had a 4 speed auto and the 2001-2004s got a 5 speed so right there I'd expect different TCM numbers for the 2000 vs 2001+.
