Default Please help 07 s40 2.4i engine gasoline

Should i buy a new engine for mine its blown up idk if it would be worth buying one or just sell the car for parts and what would be better buying an engine from a junk yard or buying a new one from volvo for 8500

Depends on what happened when it blew. If your timing belt went, you in all likely have bent valves and you can simply rebuild the head or buy a used head for $300-$400 at car-parts.com and pay a shop for the labor to install - I'd figure $1500 in total here. If you need the long block as well, again you can search car-parts.com, and look for a yard selling an engine still in the donor car and running. My guess is you can get a used engine in the 500-1000 range and would guess the repair to be in the 2000-2500 range. For $8500, you can buy another S40...

There was a hole in the oil pan it ran out of oil and the engine locked up thanks for the info and carparts.com nolonger saled engines

note the correct URL: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market - its a directory service for recycle yards in North America. It allows you to search by part and car model to find a yard with that particular part... I did a quick search and noted a typical cost for a replacement 2.4i is in the $1500-$1700 range
