Default Please Help - P0015 Code - Exhaust Camshaft

Greetings all.

My "Check Engine" light is on. I tried to get my 2004 S40 inspected and it failed with:
code P0015,
Exhaust Camshaft.
Position Timing Over Retarded Bank One.

Can you please give me some information on the nature of the problem, repair costs, easy fixes, etc.? Please bear in mind that my automotive knowledge is quite limited.

My car has only 76,000 miles on it and I have taken it to Volvo for all scheduled maintenance. I have been quoted anywhere from $700 to $2200 for the repairs. I keep getting different answers from different garages. The car is running fine (if not a little sluggish), but is not getting very good gas mileage. I'm unsure as to what to do because I think the car is only valued at about $4000. At this point I can't pass inspection and I will start to accumulate tickets in NYC (they're ruthless here). I know volvos have a reputation for longevity. Any suggestions? Repair costs range? Is any of this under warranty? Its's a 2004 that I bought CPO. Any additional feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

It should be. It's a 2004 with only 78,000 on it. I bought it CPO, but I don't know if that particular component is covered. Have you any idea? Thanks much.

I just contacted Volvo. My 6-year warranty expired 26 days ago. Just my luck. I'll probably get rid of the car as I'm not going to put $2500 in repairs into a car valued at $4500. BOO...

It might only need the solenoid on the top of the motor.
