Default Problem with Key remote

I have checked my remote key on my 2002 Volvo 240 at an Autozone shop. It (the key) is broadcasting.

I can start my Volvo with this key. However, the key does not lock or unlock the doors remotely.

Do I have to program the key to work with I my Volvo? I changed the battery on it a week ago. Maybe it needs to be reprogrammed?

It does start my car and know the car needs something on the remote to do this? So part of it must be working.

Also, the 1 second interval flashing red light on the right side of the dash is not working so maybe it requires something be done there also.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,

Newport_j

I would check your fuses first. I think fuse #8 in the box under the steering wheel protects the door locks and the little flasher.

Default How does the fuse if it is burnt appear?

Okay how does it look if it is not burnt out and how does it look if it is burnt out?

This fuse is in a set of fuses under the steering wheel?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

the interior fuse box is right next to your hood release - and has a snap on cover. Mostly when fuses go they get a little cloudy or "dirty" in the center but not always. If unsure you can use an ohm meter. There's also a fuse puller provided in the car - I think its inside the interior fuse box...(rather than the fuse box under the hood)
