I am looking at getting a spare remote. A lot / cheapest I find on e-bay are 4-button remotes, i.e. with the panic button. Mine is a three-button remote w/o panic button.

Are they interchangable? I dont care if the panic button doesn"t work as long as the remote can be programmed. Dont want to spend the money to find out that I can only pair the 3-button remote to my car.

I understand will have to go to a dealer to get it programmed on my '98 V70. Has anybody done that and can share whether 4 button remote works also?

Answering my own questoin.....I spoke to the parts guy at the local friendly stealer... he said it works. Well, the panic button won't but the rest will. I have ordered one on Ebay for $23 will report back once I have received and have it programmed. I hope I can convince service guy to program it for free for me.
