Default Radio Changes Channels

Hello everybody, just joined up recently and really appreciate the wealth of information here. My '01 S40 radio sometimes changes channels, especially if the ride is rough. I have also integrated an Iphone with a FM modulator that is sometimes difficult to get on channel "6" which is the optimal for music accessability. Anyone have these problems, and is there a fix?

I see this is an old post, but it has been happening in my mom's 03 S40. It is a HU-615 I believe. It only seems to be the radio presets. The **** seemed super finicky, so I removed it and it helped for a while, but now the presets jump all over the place, especially over bumps. I am thinking it is a loose connection in the radio for that ****. Has anyone found a fix or is a radio replacement the only option?

Contact cleaner (I used Caig ProGold because it was what I had on hand, but all of Caig's contact cleaners are among the best). You will need to know your radio code. Pull the radio. I was able to clean the rotary encoders by removing the top cover (three screws). Before it was nearly impossible to make source selections or select radio presets. Cleaning the "pots" (really they are rotary encoders) fixed it right up. Same applies to the climate control--it was totally whacked and cleaning those controls also worked.

I love free or near free repairs.

Last time I had a problem with my radio changing stations, I fixed it by making my kids ride in the back :-) Good advise on starting by cleaning the contacts.

Thank you for suggesting contact cleaner. I finally got around to trying that method, and it really cleaned up those rotary switches. The radio hasn't jumped stations yet.
