Default rebuilt s40 engine

the dealership recently told my that my 2007 s40 5 speed requires engine replacement. They suggested two engines that were both too expensive for me. Would getting a rebuilt engine a viable option for me. The car looks immaculate, body and interior.

Not really sure what you are asking here.
How does anyone here know your financial standing, who is doing the rebuild, how long it will take, that version of a rebuild (there are lots) and so on?

which model (ie turbo or NA)? what was going on with the engine to suggest you need a rebuild? How many miles on the car? If you want to consider a less expensive alternative by going with a used engine, you can search recycle yards using car-parts.com - at least that way you know the market for used. If you decide to go used, see if you can get one thats still in the car running (so you can get a compression test).

I saw a lot on Ebay for @$3-400 when I looked at them last.
I am a big fan of rebuilding myself, at least that way you KNOW what is inside, what got done, etc.

This forum attracts nonsensical drive-bys for some reason, more than any other I've been on. One post wonders, drop some word salad and never return. You'll get used to it. I try and ignore them now.

Apparently so mate, looking at the OP's ONE post.....lol
I just delete this stuff on a Rover forum I'm a moderator on, if they haven't been on in a few days, and don't reply. Mind, this one may have not made it through moderation we have for new members anyways.......

but I still want to know what the best Volvo is...

I have it down to the '00 S40 on Craig's list that's not running (needs a turbo is what the ad said $200 to get it out of their yard) or the '98 S70 T5 with a 5 speed - needs some minor body work (left rear door and quarter have a swipe dent) - $500 on ebay...

I hate body work, so my choice would be obvious...lol
The T5 manual does sound very tempting though!
