Default remote doorlock sensor issues

I just got my 2002 Volvo s40 back from a car radio repair shop. I asked him to fix the remote door lock sensor located on the right front speaker under the windshield.

The keyless entry remote does not work and the hemispherical part of the remote doorlock sensor does not blink as it does when it is working.

The service tech told me the doorlock sensor was already hooked up so he did not do anything. It was not blinklng periodically as it should.

It does not operate when I press the remote on the keyring to unlock the door. The remote doorlock sensor is hooked up, but again it is not bliknking. I guess that means it is not working.

There could be two problems:

1. The remote sensor is bad. That would be easy to fix: just replace it. Does the sensor have to blink when it's working or does that not matter?
2. The socket that the remote sensor is plugged into is not working. It is a dead socket. How does one check for that and if the socket is bad is it difficult to replace?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,
