Default Revving strangely

S40 2005 1.8 when I blip the throttle it goes up to 2500rpm and hangs for a second or two and then drops to normal, If I give it a bit more it goes up as normal drops to about 3000rpm and hags for a few secs and then drops to normal (hot or cold). When I have my foot on the clutch it behaves normally.
When driving it is very slow to drop revs between gear changes.
No fault codes at all
Had new plugs about thee months ago was fine then. Have cleaned the throttle body out made no difference.
Have the B4184s11 engine

Can anyone point me in the right direction

usually odd behavior revving (or un-revving?) suggests an intake air leak or perhaps a fuel pressure issue. Have you inspected vacuum lines, air boots/hoses, PCV etc?

For me it was the crank case breather hose. It's located behind the intake manifold and isnt much fun to get at. I found the problem by spraying brake cleaner around the intake manifold and the revs dropped and it wanted to cut out and knew the fuild was getting in somehow and turns out there is a breather hose behind the intake manifold.
Only advise is careful with the injector seals and the seal for the dip stick to the sump and the manifold Is tricky to line up again.
I have a 2005 s40 1.8 with 118k and have replaced one engine mount and alternator and both belts and tensioner and rear wheel bearings and drop links. Breather hose and front wing. So you have any questions on any them. Id be happy to help.

Im very confident it's the throttle body itself and the throttle body does make a noise when the ignition is on and sounds very clunky and it reads 11% min even when the engine is off and only goes 78% max and you can see its not a false reading it's physically not opening and closing fully. Off too euro tomorrow.

check out the xemodex.com web site - they have content on ETM related issues. Usually its the older ETMs (ie 2000-2004 years) but your 2005 may be in that lot.

Default Crank case breather..

I replaced the crank case breather hose behind the intake manifold. Sprayed brake cleaner all around and in between the intake manifold and the revs dropped and wanted to cut out. Thought the plastic manifold might of been cracked but unluckily really and turns out there is a hose between the intake manifold and engine.
took the intake off and there was a massive split in the hose.
brought a new crank case breather hose for £25 and the revs stopped hoovering.
cheap fix but not much fun to do.

Oops. Ignore my (now-deleted) post. It was relative to my 5-series BMW, not my dearly departed Volvo V50. ;-)
