Because of repair on my S40 1996 I removed the negative battery wire. After connecting the wire again there has not been any information in the instrument cluster (speedometer, tachometer, petrol, temperatur, the displays for amount of km and the clock)?
The fuses are all ok and all other functions in the car works normal (including alarm lamps) now for 14 days.
Can anybody give me an advice - how to solve this problem?

 

You checked all the fuses under the hood and under the dash?

 

I have loked for alle the fuses - borh in the cabin and also them in the engine room - all were well!
And the instrument cluster gets its power from a fuse commen also to some verry well working light bulps on the car!
So - can I do somthing to make a diagnoses - what about the ECU, from where the signal comes to the Instrument cluster?
Are there a controlling element in the cluster for the instruments?
My car is the one without information center - only analog showing of speed, tachometer, petrol and temperature and small digital LCD panels showing amount of km and a clock!
Can the ECU go into a blocking state not showing information - but it does work normal controlling the engine!?

 

Now the instruments functions again!

I removed the instrument cluster from its wire-connections and after having look at it, I reconnected it again - but still it did not work!
But at the next morning it all worked - after 14 days not working!!
