s40 2.0t boost pressure
hi everyone, first post here.have bought a 1998 s40 2.0turbo,was wondering what safe level of pressure you can raise the stock turbo to? i plan to install a bleed valve to set the pressure the standard pressure even tho its a lpt seems very low.any ideas??? thanks
Welcome.
I am not familair with theU.K. models...over in usa they run ~8psi, and a safe level is like ~12psi (I think).
First thing you should do is a stage zero. That way your car can be in it's tip-top shape.
Next: install an aftermarket boost gauge, that way you know what you are really running.
If you do turn up the boost...you will have to run high octane (91 in the sates, so I think it would be ~93 in the U.K. I think)

ok, i have been doing alot of reading and it seems 8 psi standard, there is talk of between 12 and 14 psi out of standard 12t.i dont plan on tuning it up too much just changed from a 300bhp wrx but always liked the s40.forgive my ignorance but whats a stage zero? i have no other mods to the car and only plan to whack the boost up on occasion so i assume that would be safe to do without remapping the ecu, also the octane i use ranges between 95 and 99,cheers.
Ah...a WRX....big change mate
.
Anyway...your octane level is good.
Stage Zero is like a tune up or major service. (you know like: spark plugs, oil change...ect)
I would run around 13psi...just to play it safe. Like I said I am not famaliar with the U.K. models
Off Topic: There is a guy over in the UK... his turbobrick name is CHESH740R, and here is his website: http://www.chesh.co.uk/index.htm.
Maybe he is close toyou.
Cheers
Good Luck

no not going to do any mods other than the boost for now,i know its a change, sure the wrx is quick and handles well but ive seen better and comfier interiors on a quad bike plus the insurance is a nightmare, will not insure them here unless subscribed to a tracker and then its still dear, plus my mate had a 98 t4 a few years ago and ive liked them ever since.
I bridged out the boost controller solenoid just to see what it was like with the boost cranked up and what a difference!! the 2.0turbo maybe only 160hp but its so de tuned, there must be a good 20/30 hp lurking around with just a few tweeks here and there i dont want to go mad but 180 to 200 hp would be nice.

Wow...
You should be able to hit200 bhp with these tweaks.
I would realy get a free-flowing exhaust to helpthe turbospool better and breathe easier, dosen't have to be loud just better flowing: like a 3" downpipe, high flow cat/cats and straight-throught muffler/mufflers...(If you emissions lets you
).
Edit: also...maybe a drop in filter or CAI.
Good luck
