Hello everybody,

The fuel pump of my 1996 S40 makes a buzzing noise when it's running. i know all pumps make a noise whilst runnig but you should not hear your fuel pump upfront. Can't really tell you how long it has been buzzing because normally the radio is on and then you don't hear it. But i noticed today when the radio was off that you hear the fuel pump running. It's not that loud but it worries me a bit. I took the car apart to get closer to the fuel pump to make sure it is the fuel pump i hear running and indeed it is.

Need to drive the car tomorrow night from Holland to the UK and i don't want to get stranded in the middle of the night with a broken fuel pump. Is this buzzing sound the sound that failure is immenent.

Your ideas are welcome as usual.

Not a Volvo but the one in my Mustang has been Noisey for years.

 

I can hear the fuel pump on my 2001 s40 and have heard it since i have owned it (2 years). Have never had any problems with it.

 

I think mine is a bit loud too but mine is a 2001 phaseII
