Default S40 rally car

alright I was going to do a ls swap s40 but due to budget and just plain “do I really wanna do this” I’m deciding to stick with the Swedish roots and want to make it a rally car. So far what I’ve got. A s40 1.9t. A tdoh 13t turbo. For wheels I’m going with “Bassets 15x7. And I’m getting a hydro e brake, but I want to build up the motor, tranny, suspension basically anything that I can make better. I’m new to Volvo’s and I’ve got a decent idea for suspension. But still want to hear what y’all think. If you’re just gonna be a smart *** don’t reply, but if you have actual info or a good guess I’ll listen thanks

As somebody who just was invited to compete in the Empire State Performance Rally in his own S40. The best place to start is the Technical Rules and find out what the regulations and requirements are for all cars as well as in your perspective class. In the ARA, most safety regulations are the same as the FIA but within the class we are in there are limitations. The gear change, differential, clutch, brakes and suspension cannot be electronically controlled although some exceptions can be made if you request it and it is OEM. As far as an E-brake, assuming it's fwd you shouldn't be using the E-brake and instead be using the brakes while overpowering them with the throttle to slide around corners. E-brakes aren't as helpful in rally because they don't shift much weight when they are applied. In regards to wheels, make sure they are high quality and strong. Go with some nice tires suited to your staging. For instance I use Yokohama Advan A036 Gravel Rally tires on stock wheels. Suspension wise, you will want solid bushings and to weld additional bracings into components like control arms. You should get custom built coilovers featuring inverted shocks and a fair amount of adjustability. If you have any other questions email me at mus947@psu.edu and I'd be glad to help.
