I havehad a2000 S40 for over 5 years with no problems,but only recently it is giving problems starting,after read a thread in this forum I saw the idea of starting in Neutral and it worked ! This has saved me some $$$ as I was going to have a mechanic check it out.Now can some please let me know what the problem is and is this the tip of a much bigger iceberg?

 

If it will only start in neutral then most likely it is a bad PNP switch.

Should be a couple of hundred dollars to get it replaced.
