Default S40 Transmission...flush

After lot of search and controversy, I find that after 100k, that I ve now, it is worthwhile to flush the oil as indicated by the Volvo procedure. But Volvo does say: change/flush oil only IF: like the vehicle is a taxi, or heavy load carrying applications.
If a vehicle of say 4000 lbs, carries a load of 600 lbs, making a total 4600 lbs[say all the times], to warrant an oil change/flush,then how even an empty car of 4000 lbs, just about 87%...will NOT..?

Any comments...!
OR suggestions me to not or change/flush the Trans-oil !

Any why typically no car manufctr. suggest to change the W Pup at the time of T belt change...?

Thnx
[Just bought a 2000/S40 with 95 k, changing the T Belt now].

I would just do a drain & fill w/the oem volvo trans. fluid. that ususally will do the job, I wouldn't flush the trans. unless I have to, now adays the trans got so much electrical inside, it may do more harm then good when flushing.

The 2000 S40 is the four speed automatic so you can use Dexron III. You wil need twelve quarts to do a full flush.

I found that my Volvo transmissions like a fluid change around 70K - 80K miles. Both my '02 S40 and my '05 V50 were shifting a little odd, not bad, just odd. I had the fluid changed and they were good as new. So, 100K miles is not out of the question.

Thnx for the response.
I don't plan to do the 'real flush ' with additives, like I did with Audi and feel good about getting the deposits out.I agree the flush additives shouldnot be used in these new systems..[the flush solvent may dissolve the elec sensor body....LOL !]

I would drain the way Volvo suggests, and they call it flush meaning they want to add new oil and drain the mix, in steps, so that the trapped oil in places like torque converter, gets a chance to mix with the new addition, gets drained and get remixed.

But question I ve is the OEM volvo oil will cost like $200 for 10 quarts.
And since Dexron III+ Mercon is okaccepted by Volvo., why should I not use the Castrol High mileage, or is it rather better to use Mobil Synthetic ATF....and save considerably !

The Volvo is new to me...have owned 5 audis, and three BMWs, the last I ve is a 1987, 3.5 litre L6 two door coupe, which accepts 20w50 oil and Dexron III ATF...not a whole lot sensitivity to oils , though the tranny is electronic, and has 160k...never rebuilt.

Thnx for your views, and advice !

As far as I know, the synthetic was used in the later transmissions (5 spd). If yours calls for Dextron III, I would use that and it would not have to be Volvo branded.

If yours calls for synthetic then use the Volvo synthetic or Mobil synthetic (which is the same).
