Default s40 turbo owners

New to the board and volvo, but do like to make cars faster...

Anyway, I have an '04 s40 turbo and was wondering how many others out there have put on a gillis valve (or manual boost control)? I got all the parts at the local hardware store for less than $20.

I just put it on at lunch today, and wow does it make a difference

Also, what are cheap options for intake for an s40???

Thanks,
Ben

Cheap doesn't exist in the Volvo aftermarket world. I suggest you look at what is available and then make a custom one.

Here are some pics I just took. The thing you can't see is the "T" fitting because it's behind the pipe.

Pics of installed controller:

Ball Valve:

The only other pieces are 1/4 inch hose clamps and the heavy duty hose. All should be available at home depot / lowes / ace / etc.

You don't want to bleed off too much pressure, as this can cause issues. Basically the ECU is smart enough to know something isn't right so the CEL may come on or the ECU could cut off the fuel. My CEL came on for a bit and then went away after I closed it. I opened the valve back up a little and it hasn't come on. To tune it, I ran the car a few times hard with valve closed down the street. Then I opened it up just a little, I mean a very little. Then made a couple passes down the street. Opened a little more, repeat. The thing is if it's open too much, the ECU will cut off the fuel while you are driving or who knows what else.

Do this at your own risk!!!

I have enjoyed having it on mine, but my situation with the car may be a little different than yours. This is not my daily driver.

Good luck, and be safe!

More than likely the head gasket goes.

I guess I should have stated in the beginning that this is not a permanent solution. Just something I was toying around with. There are much more expensive and better options for longevity, but I wanted to try this out. It worked way better than I ever thought it would.

Later.
