Hi all,

So I have a Volvo S40 2004 2.0D and recently only the front tweeters have sound coming from them

Can anyone advise what the problem may be is it going to be blow speakers?

if so is there a forum of how to take them off aswell as how to fix this issue?

I assume that it is wired like my old '02 S40. The tweeters are wired in parallel with the door speakers and have a capacitor in series with the tweeter to serve as a crossover. Given that, the problem is likely with the wiring or the door speakers are bad.

You can pull off the grill in front of the door speaker for access. You can remove the speakers and check them or put another speaker in their place to check functionality. If you need to replace the speakers, be aware that there is hump in the door where the speaker mounts that will prevent a replacement from sitting flat and there will be a gap. If you are lucky enough to have the factory speakers that are metal, you can separate the speaker from the plastic adapter ring. Mine was all plastic and one piece. I had made adapter rings using MDF and notched around the hump.

 

I'm not a stereo expert but I had to replace all 4 door speakers on my daughter's 05. The paper cones were shot and crumbling. They use standard 6.5 inch 4ohm speakers and the old ones will have to be drilled out as they are riveted. The door panel will also have to come off.

Your S40 is a 2004, is it the older style or the redesign? If it is the 2004 and later, scratch what I said. If it is 1996 - 2004, then what I said applies.

The 1996-2004 use 5.25" in the doors. The 2004 - 2011 use 6.5" (6.75")
