Sc-813 radio Rare Issue?
Hi all,
I have a 2000 Volvo s40 1.9l.
My current issue may seem typical at first but please read thoroughly before posting a response. After scouring the net for days now, it would seem I either can't find the correct search or this is a very rare problem that many people aren't experiencing. But here goes.
Ok so ever since I've had the car I have had an issue with the SC-813 radio not working. After receiving advice from Volvo and every Internet source the common knowledge is to get the proper code and impute that security code while "code" is on the screen. So I find the correct code verified by Volvo and enter the code. But when I entered the code nothing happened the numbers simply stayed on the radio screen. It is important to note that I did not receive the typical "eee" for error or anything of that sort - for instance when the wrong code is entered. All that happens is the numbers remain on the screen, and the radio apparently 'freezes' and I'm unable to press any button to turn it off or anything. It does return to "code" screen and regular behavior once I restart the car or the key reaches II or III again from being out of the ignition.
So I figured I must be doing something wrong as everyone claims the radio should simply function once the correct code is entered, somethin I have not ha the luck of experiencing. So I decided to brig to Volvo etc etc they ran test, tested fuses etc, and we're unable to diagnose anything in particular keeping my radio from working - and told me ( based on some test sthey ran, pressing certain buttons etc) that my radio was broken, and that I needed another one.
So I buy a new radio get everything hooked up and set today yet I run into the same problem!! Mind you, this is a different radio than my original yet I'm facing the exact same problem. The Volvo guys once again told me to bring it in - but I'm skeptical seeing as their advice last time did little to help. Also the primary guy I was dealing with said he had never experienced it , and once you enter the code the radio should function - provided its not locked on off etc etc - which it was not.
So I'm wondering what in the WORLD is causing this and has anyone experienced anything like this before? I consider this an emergency at this point and would love if you guys could share any knowledge of what's going on here at all.
Thank you, and looking forward to any responses.

Hello folks!
Just purchased a 2000 S70 GLT with a SC-900 head unit. At first, the radio was locked out due to the battery going flat. I called the dealer and $9.70 later, I had the code. The new code fires the unit up.... but no sound... I checked both fuses. Both are fine. What can I check next? Has anyone seen this kind of problem?

OP: My guess is that you did NOT have the correct code on the original radio. When the correct code is entered the radio displays ON. When the wrong code is entered the display reads CODE. When the wrong code is entered to many times the display reads OFF, simple as that. ERR means that something is broken.
If the car is asking for the code after it has been entered, it is likely loosing power when the car is turned off. There is likely a short on the back of the radio, like in the wire harness. What I don't understand is how you were sold a new radio and drove away with it NOT working properly. Those things are expensive. If you'd like, you can ship the old radio to me and I can test and return it to you.

The radio displays the station as if it should be working normally. I pulled the unit out to check the connections and everything is in order. Not quite sure what to check next? I may go with an aftermarket head unit. But, I am concerned with whether the amp is blown? Is there a separate amplifier in this design?
The car doesn't "ask for the code again". When I enter the code the numbers simply remain on the screen. As if the radio never registered the code. No activity from the radio though, just the CORRECT radio code.
I am sure this is the correct code as I was having the same issue with my first radio. Which I assured was the correct code as well.
