Default Son buys 2005 S40 AWD 6 speed at auction

So my son (32) drives up with a really nice, extremely well maintained S40 with 120,000mi he purchased at an auction for $480. All kinds of receipts in glove box, show everything replaced in last 20,000. Timing belt, clutch, motor mounts, rotors, brakes, fluids all by Volvo dealer. Issue is (had to have an issue for that kind of $) I am pretty sure he has a blown head gasket. Coolant only, doing leak down test in next few days. Engine runs very strong, does not really over heat but does loss some coolant from coolant reservoir. Did coolant test for combustion gasses and liquid turned yellow. Pressure test shows 120 to 140 except one at 85psi. . No white smoke and no sweet smell from exhaust. What we need are some really good directions on head gasket replacement for 2.5L engine. I have a space to do the job and all kinds of tools, but a step by step would be great. Any help out there. Thanks

It is a very doable job. I have one right now with a 2.4 T that we are addressing. To do the job right, you need some tools and insight.

PM me and I'll give you my contact information.

If it is loosing coolant at the reservoir (expansion tank) but not over heating, it could be a cracked tank or a bad cap that won't hold proper pressure. Aftermarket caps are known to not hold pressure on these cars. I found out the hard way.

Still sounds like there is a cylinder issue with the low psi.

We have a new tank and pressure cap coming in to try before we tear anything apart. Also going to run a few more tests. The first pressure test we did we did not have the throttle open and it was a very old tester, not sure any of that is going to make a difference but just hoping.

My son absolutely loves the car!! The car is dam responsive at any speed, you can just feel acceleration in any gear. Did a car fax on it and absolutely no accidents,no nothing of any concerns. And to top it off he found $1500. worth of Elevate parts in the trunk ,brand new still in unopened packs, most of which he plans to sell. Anybody know the best way to sell Elevate parts.

Swedespeed.com Classifieds is a great place. Check out the S40/V50 forums too for great info.

If the car is running that good, I doubt there is anything seriously wrong.
