Default Speed and load rating for tires

I recently had shocks and struts replaced on my 2001 s40. The mechanic told me I have the "wrong tires" for my car because of the speed and load rating. He said I have 87T and I should have 88V (I believe 195/60/15 is the size but I may be wrong). I am due for new tires and I'm not sure what to do. Any recommendations you have would be great. My limited understanding of this issue is that the 88V tires might handle better, particularly at higher speeds but I can expect to get only 40,000 miles, whereas the 87T tires will give me (I think) approximately 70,000 miles. What should I consider when purchasing my next set of tires? If I buy 87T again, are there "wear-and-tear" issues that might develop in other areas of the car because of the tires? Are there any safety issues (braking at high speeds, etc.) that may be present with the 87T tires? Is it best to just stick with the manufacturer's recommendations for tires? Thanks so much in advance!
