Stereo replacement questions
Hey all
Ok, I'm tired of the stock head unit. I often find myself turning it up as much as possible, not able to get the volume I want. Also I want to be able to play music from SD cards and flashdrives.
anyways, my first question is, does anyone know the wattage of the stock system? I planned to just get an aftermarket unit with higher wattage.
secondly, is it as simple as getting a new headunit, with the adapter thing that fills in the extra space, and having it installed? what problems would pop up? what do I need to be aware of? I dont feel like hassling with installing it myself, figured i'd get that done somewhere. any advice?

RE: Stereo replacement questions
as far as i know, it's that simple, but usually an aftermarket radio put out in a range of 4 x 40 watts or 4 x50 watts, i've done it with my 850 and my s70 and never blew a speaker. just make sur you don't have a amplifier that came with the car original. i'll look further for you, wich year is the s-40? is it a double din radio original or simple din? if it's a double din, you'll probably need a casing to fill the gap under otherwise you'll be just fine installing it with the harness and following the color codes..... that's all i can say for now, give me the year and i'll look into it for you.

RE: Stereo replacement questions
excellent, thanks for the help.
Its a 2004. and I hate to admit I dont know what is meant by double-din/single din
it says HU-550 (I believe that was the number)
also, it has 6 speakers, and all the stereos i'm looking at say 40X4, 60X4....will the front four speakers be driven by the two 'front' outputs on the new unit? or do I definitely have to find a head unit with 6 outputs?

RE: Stereo replacement questions
I want to do the same thing... (I had a 440 with a Sony stereo, but I've just bought an S40 and miss my old unit.) Mine's a double size unit too....
2 things:
• What unit did you decide on? I'm trying to find one that will match the interior nicely.
• Where did you get the tray fitting for underneath? I'd rather get a tray than a flat panel to cover a hole....
Thanks!
Aaron
