Stuck! Need some knowledge and advice
I've had the IMMOBILIZER SEE MANUAL message for two weeks now, as my '06 sits pathetically in the parking lot. I've tried all the DIY tricks, lock and unlock/jumping the batt., flipping key over, checking cables, etc. Nothing.
Sad to say I'm not a wealthy individual and taking the car to the dealer is just financially out of the question. I've got great insurance, but never thought for a second the car would decide within SECONDS to just not start.
What is the official part name for the antenna ring? Any other key related part names would be great, and a trusted online parts store where I can find these things, and I will love you all forever.
I know quite a few mechanics, but none that work on Volvos in particular. If anyone knows of any repair guides out there, I could probably use that too.
THANKS!

Unfortunitly, a dealer trip is the only way to resolve the Immobilizer issue Try giving them a call and seeing what it will cost to reset the Immobilizer. Might not be as bad as your thinking. It could be a few different things but most likely your ignition control unit will probably need replacing, not just the antenna ring. Here is another thread that talks a little about it....

The part is about $150 online.
Also It will really help if we know where you're located, as someone might be local to you and be able to advise you on a shop to use.
For on line parts try

Got my car towed to volvo for an estimate on repairs. They have the part needed, can't remember exactly what it's called but it's the unit that reads the key (not the antenna). They have the part in stock, but the part plus labor and activation software comes to over $750...
I'm certain I can get the part for MUCH less than what they are charging. Labor and software is only gonna be 350. I have the part number but can't seem to find anything online with it.

Seems more like a SKU number to me, but still couldn't find anything.
Anyone have any ideas on where I can find this thing? I happen to know someone in the car repair biz who said he can order just about any part at cost for me so if I can just find a little more info about it I should be golden. Appreciate any advice!
