Transmission flush
I am concerned about a stumble when my car a 2002 Volvo s40 accelerates. This occurs at about 50 mph, although at hotter outside temperatures it happens at a higher speed - say 60 mph.
I tool my s40 to Jiffy Lube where I put in synthetic oil (Penzoil) last month. The staff checked the fluid levels and immediately said there was something wrong with my transmiison fluild. It was dark in color and it should be clear. They also suggested a transmission flush. The cost - $ 200.00. I hesitated and asked how long would it take. They said about 15 minutes and that it was done with a machine that cleans out the transmission. That did not sound right and I still hesitated and they lowered the price to $ 180.00. I said no thanks and they lowered the price again to $ 175.00! That left me very suspiciuos.
Now I need to know what is an acceptable color for transmission fluid in a Volvo and what in the heck is a transmisson flush and why did it cost so much?
I did not take their offer. I thought if I did that more than the transmission is getting fllshed.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Don't flush it. Flushing an old trans that has never been flushed has been known to kill them because flushing loosens materials that have settled over the years. Like you, I'd be suspect. It sounds as if they were trying to sell you something to boost their commission.
Try running premium gas to see if the stumble goes away. Poor quality fuel and boost can trigger knock which cuts back timing and feels like a stumble.
How long since you've tuned her up? Each time my 2001 has stumbled enough to set the check engine light it needed new coils and plugs.
