Default Trunk wont unlock

Hello,

I own a Volvo s40 2002. The trunk wont unlock from the key remote. When i put in the key and i turn it, it opens. Could someone please provide me with the diagram of the lock mechanism? And also if you have any ideas how to fix it, or what the problem is, it would help a lot.

Thank you.

It may sound dumb but once you turn it with the key to unlock it, leave it that way and try it.

I have the same problem except I don't have a fob and the key doesn't go in. First try to spray the inside of the keyhole with WD-40 and wiggle your key around in there while trying to turn it. If that doesn't work, to open the trunk, fold down the back seats, crawl in, take the cover off the trunk by unscrewing and pulling out the 6-8 plastic tabs holding it on, and push down on the vertical rod in the direction of the latch. Once open, you can unscrew the 4 bolts holding the license plate trim in place, disconnect the lock and release rods, and freely take the lock mechanism out to try and fix/replace. I'm simply removing mine, connecting an actuator to the latch release arm and hooking up to a trunk release button inside the cabin as well as to an aftermarket car starter fob. A rear view camera is going in the place where the button was.
