Default Uh-oh...transmission problem??

Greetings. I have an 01 S40 with 168k miles. It has run beautifully for me for the 135k miles I've put on it. Today, when I fired her up, I got the flashing arrow on the dash. When I put it in drive, it felt like I was in 3rd or 4th gear. I moved the gear shifter to 2nd, 3rd, 4th and no change when driving. I also hear a very noticable "clunk" when I put it into reverse.

I changed the transmission fluid 3 years and 35k miles ago, so I can't imaging the fluid needs changing. Any suggestions on what's going on or anything I can test?

Thanks.

Check that the winter mode 'W' button at the gear selector has not been pushed in error.
The arrow shows on the dash when its on.
Check the level and color of the ATF on the auto gearbox dipstick.
Dirty fluid is a brownish color as opposed to red when clean and may smell a bit burnt too.

In winter mode, the arrow is solid. Mine was flashing. I reset the the codes last night (it had P0700 and P0705) and it seems to be back to normal today. Unfortunately, I suspect this may be a tease of things to come.
