Smile Unbelievable 40MPG

Last Sunday I drove to San Antonio with a travel 320mi. Before setting off, I filled it with 10 gallons regular gasoline. After return home, I found the the left available travel is 90 mi. It was 40MPG, do you believe?
No aircondition, 2 passengers, 65mph.
Another question, the regulare is ok for 2002 S40 1.9T?

thanks.

Would rather put in premium, but that's just me. I believe the company recommends prem.

They recommend premium for maximum performance. Tom

Typically regular in wintertime isn't bad for your car because you're using relatively cool air for combustion. The injection/fuel circuit in the computer will read the lower octane and adjust the timing advance to prevent damage and, at the same time, you get a little less power.

In summer, or airtemp over 75F use premium for your turbo. Its flashpoint is better regulated when you are pouring hot air into that motor and you don't want it to ping. Better to get a lettle less mileage than burn a hole in the piston or cause some other long term damage...

Less mileage on premium?
That's contrary to what I've always heard.

Thanks you all here, I'll raise the octane in summer. A further question, the engine has so much noise since I had this sedan, especailly when running at a low speed. Is that possibly from the octane rating or other causes? thanks
