Very Technical Question - Engine upgrade
Hi All,
I have an oportunity to buy a 2.0 litre s40 engine. Can this be put into my 1.8, what is involved? or am I better off just replacing the engine with another 1.8 when it goes?
OR - Is there any cheap and reasonably easy ways that I can increase the power on the 1.8?
Cheers

I am not an expert at motor swaps but you might want to check motor mounts. Make sure that they match, you can get into a heap of trouble if you have to change them. Is that motor coming with a trannie? Bolt up might be a problem.
I suspect engine mounts would probably match (check first!) but gear ratios are different so new engine would need to come with matching transmission. ECU might be the same depending on which 1.8 is fitted, but software would be different. Ensure suspension, tyres (size and speed rating) + brakes can handle increased power/speed/weight. Good luck!

Black Beauty made an extremely important point. So many want more power (read speed) and spend their last dime on obtaining the performance but do absolutely nothing regarding the safety issues such as upgraded brakes and speed rated tyres. I cringe when I see a kid's hot rod shaking down the avenue hoping that he is not near me when the suspension lets go or the tyres blow!
