Hey guys, new to forum and Volvos. Just got a 00 s40, wondering if cutting out the middle muffler will cause problems with passing emmisions inspection. Im in NJ btw.

It really depends on the sound you want. I dont really like the sound on exhausts from Honda's that are tuned. I purchased my exhaust system from EST and I love the sound it makes. Has a bit of a deeper, throaty sound compared to all the burners out there. I've only updated my '01 S40 1.9T with the EST exhaust system and Intake. I'm saving for the turbo downpipe that's available as well. I think that's all I will accomplish except for the suspension system since I'm looking into purchasing a '06-'07 S60 R. There's not many things out there for the older model S40's.

Actually you should once under the car cut the 2st CAT and the mid-muffler at the same time.Replace them with 2.5' pipe. Also replace the flex pipe just after the DP.The sensors are on the 1st CAT and the second has in no way effecting the system but you will gain a good 18HP.

..............................

Never saw this kinda praise.
I ve 2000 V40/1.9t, and also 2001, SAAB 93/ 2.0 turbo twin cam with timing chain.

The Volvo has less miles like 101,000. recently changed timing belt, serpentine, fuel, air , cabin filters..and also the crank case emission system with considerable parafernilia....costing a bundle, yet the crank case pressure is still there[when u open the oil-fill cap]...
Where in the world this is trapped...don't know. To install the damn charcoal collector/canister ...had to remove the intake or exhaust manifold...what a pin...but worse is .. no pos result...
The impact of the crank case pressure is on seals...which e being pushed out...so I see oil leak past the cam shaft seal, behind the timing gear....and it is enuff now that I see drips on the drive way.
Oher problem from this pressure[that I don't see yet] is oil leak past the front main brng seal for the Cr Shaft...now thats repair no one wants to see or do.
The best MPG, Ive got is 20/28..
now the SAAB..[for comparison]
The co went bankrupt [trying to give you more than what you pat for].
No leaks nothing...engine light comes on once in a while but its related to Gas cap and oil fill cap.
Just changed the transmission oil, cold put 6 qts of Mobil 1. , after add, run , drain etc several times.
Has a better pep, smoother shift and front wheel, suspension noises.
MPG: 25/31...maybe because of the hatch back giving better aerodynamics....

I cannot find a way to change the Volvo Trans oil...some say leave it alone..yet the dealer says..'Come on down....oil only for $80...and change/exchange is $180 .
The SAAB oil[Trans] was dirty greyish color...no red left..so change was warranted. here in Volvo..it ain't as bad..but change cannot be 'bad for the gears and clutches'..particularly if I pour in synthetic...

Question:

Has anyone used the additives for Tranny oil, many of which say 'will run 20 F cooler'...if indeed its true , then lower temp w/o a Q, extends life...of most devices.

As an Engineer have a slogan: "HEAT kills ...like none else ".

Thnx for ure answers and suggestions ...but most importantly ure contributions...

Sorry were could you find a ecu tune up for the v40? I haven't found anywhere to get it done? And of you but a HKS, evc to squeeze more psi out of the stock 14t think I would still need the ecu ?

Default Turbo upgrade V40/S40 1.9T

Mamba racing sells a stage 3 kit for The Td04l 14T It includes a extended tip billet compressor wheel and lightweight highflow 9 blade extended tip turbine Along with forged thrust surface and collars and step gap piston rings The United States version has a 12T so i took a 14T from a s60 2.5T and rebuilt it with mamba 9-6 kit and swapped it over to my ported turbine housing and exhaust manifold mixed with a hollowed front cat and upsolute tune also running a billet mamba 14.5 psi wastegate actuator and billet cbv block plate with a hks bov and cheap short ram filter and the stock 440cc injectors handle it just fine along with the trans. I use E3 1 step colder plugs a walbro 255 pump and upgraded audi fpr 4bar. Rest of engine is stock and i run 14psi on 93 octane and make 277hp. Up over 100hp from the stock 165hp. Its pretty easy to get power out of these cars but anything more then 300hp and u will need to forge the engine.
