Default Vovlo S40 T4 - heater blowers not working

Hi,

I have Volvo S40 T4 (2001 - UK) and my fans inside the car have stopped blowing air. There is heat there, but even if i set the dial to maximum for blowing air none comes out. I have changed the fuse and this didn't work.

Could anyone tell me what the problem could be?

Thanks,

Paul.

I would suspect the blower motor resistor first. The blower itself is built strong and lasts a long time. The blower motor resistor is fragile and tends to cook itself. It is located behind the pax side glove box. If you remove the kick panel you can see it. I had to remove the glove box and drill 2 holes in the metal brace so I could access the phillips head screws that hold the resistor in place. Others have removed the whole metal brace instead. You will only see the black plastic part as the metal finned part is inside the ducting where the air flows. The fins are cooled by airflow. Mine died when the cabin air filter was clogged and not enough air reached the fins to cool the resistor. It's a good idea to replace the cabin air filter while you have everything apart.
