Car for sale is 2007 S40-T5 AWD. It has a blown head gasket. Approximately 218,000 miles. No time to work on this and don’t want to pay someone else to fix it. Located in Western NY. Appreciate any advice on listing this for those who might be interested in a parts/fixer upper. Thanks.

 

the value of the car should be set at the private seller's price (check out KBB for example) minus the costs to repair (parts plus labor). I don't think you'd get a buyer for anything more than that as anybody buying a fixer upper is looking to create some sweat equity based on their own tools and labor. As a guess, I'd pencil in $2000 as the cost to replace the head gasket (500 parts/1500 labor). Your car in good condition would be worth $3000 +- 500 so an asking price in the 1000 range would be reasonable
