so my car on the way home did this weird random clunk ever minute or so. took it to my shop. we put it up on the lift. they couldnt find anything wrong with supsension or exhaust being loose. could it be a transmission noise. it happens at weird times. its like someone is hitting under the center console with a hammer. it sounds like the exhaust is hitting the underside of the car but the mechanics ruled that out. what could it be!!!!!

 

sounds like a bad motor or strut mount to me

 

thats what im thinking. it happens at weird times and i really dont think its the transmission failing in any way. the car drives fine. no slipping or hesitation. its an automatic. we shook the tires when it was up on the life and checked the motor mounts and it seemed ok but it could be a transmission mount or definetly an old shock thats gone out just clunking around or the shock mount

 

How high is the mileage? I recently replaced my front ARB bushings and the mysterious clunking I had been experiencing for over 18 months FINALLY went away. I'm up at 180K miles though. Those take a while to wear.
